Good. Now I've got your attention boys.
The third unit in our series this term on Christians who have influenced the world is about women's rights.
Sadly throughout history and across many cultures women have been subjected to significant discrimination and at times oppression by the male members of the society in which they have lived.
Aristotle once said, 'A proper wife should be as obedient as a slave... The female is a female by virtue of a certain lack of qualitities - a natural defectiveness.'
And a Swedish prover goes like this: 'Women have long hair and a short mind.'
Discrimination against women though still continues in the 21st century. Women tennis players get paid less than male tennis players, for example.
And I'm sure all the boys could tell you a nice juicy sexist joke.
Well here's your task for today.
Using the magical world of google, I want you to search through and find out some of the most extreme cases of discrimination against women.
Once you have found these, I want you to search for the reason why women are discriminated against.
Then I want you to go to biblegateway.com and look up John 1:12, Acts 2:1-21, 1 Corinthians 1:11, Galations 3:28 and any more passages you can find that mention women in the Bible.
Finally, once you have done all that research I want you to put together a four paragraph essay (an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion) citing relevant examples in history, to tell me why women have been discriminated against, and why they shouldn't be any more.
Stop ya whinging.
I don't make you do that much work in BIB - today is a working lesson.
When you have finished your essay you need to email it me (even if it's not completely finished).
Get working!
