Everybody values a dollar differently.
My kids think that a dollar is like striking rich through lotto.
'Wow Daddy- now I can buy a Ninja Turtle toy!'
My wife also values a dollar.
'Wow a dollar - I'll put it in the money tin and it can go towards our next holiday!'
I don't really value a dollar.
'It's only a buck.'
However, when it comes to human life - I most certainly value it.
The Bible tells us in Psalm 139
'You knit me together in my mothers womb...'
God places great value on human life, he created us specifically, specially, intentionally and lovingly. Therefore when human beings decide to devalue human life by:
Abortion...
Pornography...
Prostitution...
... it makes me mad.
I don't understand how any man could look into the eye of a woman, hand her 200 bucks and have sex with her.
I don't understand how any woman can know that they're pregnant and decide to delete the child from existence and from memory.
When human beings under value life, they start to 'play God.' We start to think that we can decide who lives and who dies. This occurs in things like...
Euthanasia...
Capital Punishment...
... and it makes me sad.
Sure, if someone murders someone they deserve to be punished, but if we, as a community take their life, aren't we just as bad as them? We are playing God.

I disagree with the idea of abortion because its killing a living, breathing child (with fingernails) but I reckognize that there are some very bad teenage parents out there who would beat/rape/eventually kill their child just because they're not mature or ready enough to handle an infant. Therefore, I think abortion would be better for the embryo (who never would have experienced these things) rather than have a child go through things like rape.
ReplyDeleteProtestution is a tricky subject because I hate the fact it degrades women but I understand that some women enjoy it/have no other way of getting money. I guess the women have to desensitize themselves to the point they don't feel sad about it anymore.
Its not 100% feminist anyway.
I guess each person's opinion on the value of life is based on their personal experience. However, most people these days get the idea that a life is worth a life (a man dies, a baby boy is born), or in fact, worth nothing at all. I think media plays a huge part in this, due to the fact that all we ever see (well, 99.9999999% of the time) on the news is death, destruction and violence.
ReplyDeleteI am also feeling quite angry at this present point in time, so perhaps I will discuss my views on the issue that concerns me most-prostitution.
There's this song by this band (shout out to you if you actually know it) and the last line of the chorus is "She's a lady, and ladies shouldn't be messed with". I'm not trying to be sexist but men need to get a heck of a lot more respect for women than they have at this present point in time. The only reason they ever hold the door open anymore is so that they can check out your butt as you walk in. Prostitution is revolting. You can't pay someone a few dollars and just use them in which ever way you feel like at the time. You can't tell your wife you're hanging out with your mates when really you're off screwing someone else for half of your week's worth of wage. It's just not right. The value of human life is degraded through things like that, women and men alike are worth more than just being sexual objects and a women's sole purpose is not (notnotnotnot NOT) to be used like a plastic piece of crap.

Hmm. Well I personally think that it's not our (as humans) responsibilty to put a value on human life. I mean, God created us and I think it's only fair to let him decide. and in fact, he already has. He says that we are in fact pricless to him and that we are all equal in his eyes. He loves us, but he loves us all equally also. And I think that in this world today we put way to much emphasis on the different values of different people. Everywhere we go there are people who are higher up than we are, people who are considered to be lower than us etc. and I honestly don't think it's fair.

I honestly don't understand why abortions are aloud if murder isn't, isn't it the same thing? well i happen to think of it this way, if you can walk up to someone you don't know, could you hold a gun to there head and kill them? well it is the same thing, you are still killing a human being although it is younger it is still a human.
I think that any person who agrees with abortion is a sick person with mental problems or someone that has temper or anger problems. it is the same as murder and people should be punished for killing a child in the womb!

I get really annoyed when people say that if they got pregnant at a certain age that they would get an abortion. i mean it is a human life and it is worth alot and even if you didn't want a baby there are other people out there who do want a baby but cannot have them. ugh it is making me angry just thinking that people would kill a human life.

yeah i think that the value of human life is priceless. That person may grow up and find the cure for cancer, or they may grow up to become a famous musician. Wasn't bethoven deaf and like dumb. His parents could have killed him but they didnt and he wrote great music.

In this world today it is very obvious that all human beings are not valued the same....some people have higher status, some get seen as being a better person just beacuse of what they do... ReplyDeleteI personally believe that if a person WANTS to die and has many reasons why they want to die, they should be allowed to. I'm not saying they should make a loved one turn off the life support machine, because that would serve for years and years of nightmares but I believe that we should choose when we want to die.
I don't altogether value suicides but I've seen many people absolutely haunted by personal taunts to the point they become like a robot. That is not living to me.

ReplyDeleteAnd Sarah - I think you all know what I think about abortion, seeing as my son was born at 25 weeks. In some places around the world, you can abort a baby past this date. It makes me sick to the stomach.
I know that some kids are going to be born into a world of abuse, but there are plenty of people who have survived abuse and are wonderful and responsible citizens. God created them, and we should give the opportunity to be born and to live.

Abortion. Yes, a sensitive topic. And yes I know that various girls in this room and throughout this school have about 0 level of respect for me for this, but that's fine with me.
If you're young and you have been abused into the situation where you are bearing a child, you have a couple options. It depends on your past, your present and how you see your future as to what you do in that situation. Why not just share with the whole class that the reason I think that abortion is acceptable amongst young teens is because my birth mum had me at 16. She was about 2 seconds from aborting me when she decided she couldn't do it and in the end gave me up for adoption. And for that I am grateful. If I was still living with her, I would have had about as much worth to my life as I would have if she had aborted me.
Yeah I know its a life. But I think its something like 75% of teenage mothers commit suicide. And of course the boyfriend runs off, so therefore the child is homeless. What kind of life is that.
How about thinking about that instead of pushing it right aside as murder.
If you dont want a baby and don't want to face the decision of abortion or not, don't go sleeping around at a young age.

i think that a humans life is really important because God made us all special and He would not have made us without a purpose in view. I dont think that abortion is the answer. If God wanted you to have a child than He will give you one, but when the life is made in the mothers womb, god has a purpose for that child and getting an abortion I think is not part of Gods plan for us.

I'm not really sure what to say on this topic.. but I think that Beck is right when she says it depends on peoples personal experiences. We were talking before about people who were too sick to continue on with life. By law they are not allowed to decide whether they continue to fight or choose to die. Personally, I think that all people in that boat should be taken into consideration, not just a blanket law. But then I guess you could just say that that is like suicide... but I'm not sure, lol.

I think that what others are trying to say is that if someone is aborted, how do we know whether they will get the life that you have, rather than what you could've had!
We can't know, and therefore, should we be aborting if we don't know what the future holds! I've heard plenty of stories (like yours!) where people have turned a tough start into something beautiful. However, if the easy way out was taken, that 'something beautiful' would never have occured.

kyle, if you mean that if someone was not able to defend themselves and was about to get shot. could you step in and kill them . legally you are allowed,you would not go to jail for killling someone who was about to kill someone else or if they were about to kill you because that is justs defending yourself or in this case the other person.

ok well this wholeeee thing with abortion. as christians, we shouldnt judge other people for their decisions and not targeting anyone, but thats what we are all doing. no one knows what is going to happen in the future and what we all say now may be different to what actually happens. it is scientific proof that a foetus does not start properly developing until 12 weeks and older. therefore, it is unrecognised under 12 weeks and the law with abortions is that the termination has to be done under 12 weeks becuase after 12 weeks, it develops. it really depends on the situation and the factors that are taken into account at the time. some people may be put into the difficult situation of choosing this. we shouldnt judge people, but be there to help them. Also, i noticed that sarah said that someone had to have a mental disorder to commit abortion. if you really think about it, someone who wants an abortion has to think about what they are doing.
ReplyDeleteKnowing someone who has had an abortion, they never live their life the same. they think about what they have done every day of their life and often become diagnosed with depression becuase of the psychological effects of the process. some people say that the process is simple and easy, well its not. if you find out how an abortion is carried out, then you will find that the process isnt simple and is psychologically damaging.
