Hi team.
I wanted to reflect on the email that Beverly Goldsmith sent through to me. She wrote that Jesus's life was one of healing; that's why Christian Science is based on 'healing'. She writes that healing of sin, sickness and death is central to what she believes.
Now on first glance, that all sounds very nice, but what she has forgotten is that Jesus' life wasn't one of healing but a life that would ultimately lead to a death - and death on a cross. Healing is not central to the Christian message; Jesus is.
Go to biblegateway.com and search for Mark 2:1-12. This is a passage we have looked at. When the paralytic man is lowered down through the roof, the first thing Jesus does is heal his sins. This shows Jesus' priorities.
There is no point have a 'healed' back if you have not been forgiven of your sins and have a relationship with God. When any group of people (and it's not just Christian Science) place the emphasis on 'healing' they are looking at cashing in on God's power, rather than living out a life in service of him.
A lot of people want their 'religion' to be warm and fuzzy. Get rid of hell. Keep heaven. Keep healing. Get rid of 'saving sex for marriage'. Keep blessings. Etc.
This world is a screwed up world though. We cannot cruise through life and it's best that we start NOW understanding that things will get tough. We will suffer and we will go through tough times. If we have a relationship with God, we can know that he will help us through these; he may not fix things up... but he knows exactly how we're feeling.
Remember Jesus inthe Garden of Gethsamane prayed that God would not make him die. God said no.
Jesus understands our pain and suffering. Our ultimate healing will occur in heaven.
If we are Christian and have a relationship with God.
What do you think?

I think anyone with the name Beverly is weird.
ReplyDelete-Steph-
Agreeing with Steph.
ReplyDeleteIt would be flipping sweet if God could or would just tell us what to do. Cause' the Bible is like, really vague most of the time. And yeah, I'm kinda too lazy to read it mostly. Buuuut we do have a relationship with God because we love him, not because he has the power to just fix everything that we don't like. He does control suffering.
Reading back on what I have written, this comment is more vague than the Bible. Hah.
Beck overandout. x
well. I honestly think that a religion based on heping yourself, and getting everything out of God that you possibly can is just plain selfish. I made the decision to become a Christian because i loved God, not because I wanted him to do everything for me and so I can have an amazing life. but yeah

I think the world is quite.... screwed up. Can I say 'screwed' on here?
ReplyDeleteBut... I think in my heart of hearts that God does it for a reason.
As much as I hate God at the moment for reasons I shall not confide.... I think he's a bit like Mrs Ricketts... Tough when he needs to be, but nice when you're overly struggling.
I can't believe I just compared Mrs Ricketts to God.

I dont think that Jesus came spasificly to heal, but i think that He came spacificly to die on the cross and to save people from their sins. Yes Jesus did heal and yes He did come for that, but His main purpose was to save people and to die on the cross.
