Ok - so the title of this blog is controversial and thought-provoking; but that's the idea.
I want you to think carefully. We've just touched on a few aspects of Catholicism in the last few lessons, but the important question to ask is - are the differences between Protestantism and Catholicism too great to reconcile?
In other words - does one group have it right and one group have it wrong? Or are they both just working from slightly different scripts.
Think about the parts of Catholicism we've looked at: The worship of the Pope and Mary, the sacraments, the emphasis on a lot of Old Testament rules and laws, traditions, the poor history of the Catholic church (leaders ripping off members).
Think about Protestantism: a history of wars and fighting, a stance that the Bible is the one true way to get to God (the only true way)...
What do you think? What are some of your ideas? Can these two 'denominations' be reconciled, or does one have to be wrong and one have to be right?
Can Catholics go to heaven?

well as long as they believe in God and that he sent Jesus to die for their sins, shouldn't they go to heaven?? even though they do have some very very stange interpretations and rituals.
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteThe only way that ANYONE can go to heaven, Catholic, Protestant, Baptist, Pentecostal, whatever they are; is if they believe that Jesus is the son of God, the messiah, and that he died to save us and in his mighty power rose again.
I don't think it really matters if you go to a Catholic church, as long as you believe solely what is in the Bible, and not twist it all up. However, if you DID go to a Catholic church or some other strange kind of religion, and you believed firmly the 'off' teachings that were going on there, and not the true message of God; if you cut out the bits you didn't like and just believed what you wanted and never repented, I don't believe it would be possible for you to go to Heaven.
That's just my thoughts.
Beckoverandout.
I have a major mental block
ReplyDeleteI'm undecided; i can see the arguements on both sides.
ReplyDeleteCatholics believe in the main picture-that jesus is the son of God, and that they should have a relationship with God, and i guess that might be enough.
i dont know.
:&
do catholics have a different bible???
ReplyDeletei think that they CANT go to heaven...i mean who is it to choose if you can go to heaven or not? only god can..right?..i dont know...but is their a perfect christian?...nah i dont know im just trying to be smart! :P
ReplyDeletebut yea i dont know...
peace out

i personally don't know. there are a lot of technicalities and i don't want to be hypocritical and say, you cant go to heaven because your catholic. i believe that if someone loves god and believes he died for them to save our sins and that you will follow your saviour the lord god with all your heart soul and mind then you will go to heaven.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Catholics have a different Bible, but I think they choose what they believe and what they ignore, the 'cut out' the uncomfortable bits.
ReplyDelete-Beck.
if they do worship God as well as Mary, then they have a chance of going, but whan they get absorbed in to their whatchamacallit and start to forget God and what he did.
ReplyDeleteI think that what Beck said is true. I mean if you confess with your mouth and believe with your heart that Jesus is Lord and came to save us you will spend eternal life with him in heaven.... Doesnt matter what church you go to just as long as you confess with you mouth and believe with your hearts.. So yeah...

i think that everyone should have an opinion but weather it is right or not that is another thing altogether.
ReplyDeleteOk i have a different kind of related question... would the pope go to heaven? i mean yer he is sort of a bit like pasters in our churches, but it is different in many ways. and because he is so "famous" around the world then wouldn't be very like umm expectant of people meeting him or wanting to meet him. people are fans of him but sum are only fans of him.
